Wake up Oklahoma City Thunder Fans!

Wake up Oklahoma City Thunder fans.
Wanted: OKC Thunder fans

Where: Chesapeake Arena

I don’t even know where to begin this rant. I’m shaking my head as I write. I can not believe what I saw tonight and the last several if not all Oklahoma City thunder home games.
Can someone tell me what happened the Oklahoma City thunder fans? Fans remain sitting at the end of the game with a close score?
(Fans remain sitting with less then 2 mins left. 4 point game.)

Worst on a Friday night the fans that get up and leave with two or three minutes left in the very close game.

(Fans leaving 4 point game 2 mins in the game.)

Mind blowing are the seats that remain empty the whole game. If you own tickets why would you not make sure that your seats are filled. I’m sure there are charities with kids that would love to sit in those seats and cheer on the team. It looks so bad on TV to see those empty seats and there are many of them around the arena.

The arena isn’t as involved with getting the crowd into the game like years past.

A couple games ago Russell Westbrook was so angry he came over to our side of the arena with his hands up as if to tell us to get up and cheer.

There were so many games in the past that the crowd literally helped motivate the team to a win.

I’m not going to talk about the game tonight against the New York Knicks only to say it was nice to see Derek Fisher.

The thunder need a lot of help right now even from the fans.
*Be in your seats on time

* Stand up and cheer

* Stay (do you know how many games are won in the last few seconds? Lots!)

Bring back the best NBA fans in the league or risk losing the best players. Simple.

OKC Thunder season opener vs San Antonio Spurs

It wasn’t exactly pretty, but it was oh so sweet. Kevin Durant is back. Russell Westbrook is of another world. I finally admitted tonight that Russell Westbrook has taken the place of my beloved James Harden as my favorite  player. I know it took a while but I am loyal. You still can’t talk me out of loving James Harden but now I love Russell just a little bit more. I had a really hard time understanding Russell when he first came to Oklahoma City. He’s like a bull in a China store. What you see is what you get. No bullshit. He doesn’t care about that fragile China of yours. He may break all of it but you knew that already because he’s a bull. I personally have never seen an athlete with stronger convictions about winning then Russell Westbrook. He is committed the entire game. He leaves everything, I mean everything out on the court. He has my respect. I will take the tiny amount of bad with the loyal funny passionate hearted bull.

Kevin Durant is not at full throttle yet but it is coming don’t doubt it. He showed us a little preview of what is to come.
Steven Adams looks great with his hair pulled back.

Mitch lost weight.

Serge *swoon*

Did you ever notice how Serge Ibaka puts his finger up to the sky when he misses or makes the basket?

Dion Waiters showed us what he could be…then quickly showed us what he was. Moments of “wow he’s changed” to “ut oh”

The game was so much fun. We started out at Mickey Mantle’s for dinner and met over at Chesapeake for the game.

The lines getting into Chesapeake were outrageous  They are now making everyone go through a metal detectors before the game. It took us 40 minutes to get in from a humongous line outside. It’s the worst traffic getting into and leaving the game that I have ever experienced. No one was used to it and everyone was complaining. Plan to get there an hour early if you don’t want to stress the lines.

Our girl Susan the concession lady was there it was great to see her. Russell Westbrook’s number one fan Susan2 was also there with her new short haircut.

Todd, Christin and all the regulars were there. All in all a great night of basket ball.

OKC win 112-106

Fans sit courtside at the OKC THUNDER game with Russell Westbrook and the mask

My friend Lisa bought courtside tickets  at a charity auction and she invited me to go.

Umm Yes!!

We go to most of the home games together so we know all the players, watch our phones for Russell Westbrook  triple double watch. I have Twitter updates that notify me from Royce Young.  So to go see the Oklahoma City thunder team THIS close is something I will never forget.

We started out at pearls oyster bar. And by the time we left it was snowing pretty hard.

a little snow wasn’t going to stop us

We made it to Chesapeake with no weather complications. YAY!

We got to our seats which are right under the thunder goal and immediately security came up to us. He was friendly and went through the list of rules for sitting courtside.  I’m laughing as I write this, how did he know?  I’m guessing we have the fan girl newbie look.

We sat next to courtside season-ticket holders who sat numbly watching the game. We brought our fan girls selves and  stood up and cheered, giggled, got caught pointing at players. Said hi to some of the players. I think we spilled an adult beverage…oops. We had a blast!

Honestly it is a little stressful sitting courtside. With all the rules and The TV cameras. One cameraman threatened to put us on while we were taking a bite of our food. ha!

Serge Ibaka up close

Westbrook and Kanter

This was the first game that Russell Westbrook was in his mask. He’s did seem to have trouble adjusting to it even though he had another triple double. He adjusted it a lot during the game.

Russell Westbrook

The game got close in the fourth quarter but the effect that Russell Westbrook was having had the whole arena buzzing. He went to the line in  and the crowd yelled MVPMVPMVP! It may of been louder then Kevin Durant’s first mvp chants last season. It gave me goosebumps. Russell Westbrook is special.

Edit

OKC won 123-118

This game was The highlight of the season with Russell coming back after breaking a bone in his face three days later with the mask on. Oklahoma City fans are so lucky to be able to see the kind of talent of the Oklahoma City Thunder. I know it’s not gonna last forever but I enjoy every single minute of it.  It’s funny because now my Los Angeles friends and family are starting to remind me that Russell Westbrook is a UCLA Bruin. Keep dreaming Laker fans! We have him for at least a couple more years.

At the end of the game Westbrook threw his sweatband towards us I almost lept to get it but I had to keep it classy, plus the cameraman picked it up and kept it.  Should’ve been a little faster!

Westbrook’s headband

Here is our fan video I made. I laughed so hard listening to Lisa and commentating while the game is going on of course I cut most of The stuff about Serge Ibaka out. I won’t be Twitter shamed.

Thank you Lisa for a great night!

Road trip to Memphis: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzles

We got the idea to travel to Memphis to catch an away game: Oklahoma City Thunder versus Memphis Grizzles after meeting some grizzly fans that were here in OKC for the playoffs last year.
They were not able to make it as they went to the Super Bowl but we came on down anyway and met some friends and new friends along the way.

The night before this trip I watched The Oklahoma City Thunder lose to the New York Knicks.
It was a dagger to the heart losing to the last team in the league.
Mentally I prepared myself that I was going to go game by game and enjoy The best of it and leave the rest. In other words to stop getting angry or commenting as if I know what’s best for the team because I don’t… (More below)
We left Oklahoma City at 8 AM Thursday.
The 6 1/2 hour drive flew by and we were soon checking into our hotel.
Lisa and I were meeting friends Patty and Todd. So we went up to our room and spruced up and met them down in the lobby.
I had only met Patty and Todd one other time but we became fast friends in a perfect setting for soul food and fun.
I think all of our souls were fed this weekend.
We had reservations at BB Kings for BBQ Thursday night.
We had the soul All-Stars playing music while we ate some amazing barbecue. Our waiter was especially helpful and quick.
We chatted with the Sax player who was stoned but played out of his mind.

We all got up and danced to what seemed like 10 minute long songs!

Some of the other things that we did over the weekend we went to Gus’s fried chicken, we drove by the national civil rights museum where Martin Luther King was assassinated.
Did the Graceland tour.
Drove by some Victorian historical homes.

We went to the Westin Hotel to get drinks and watched the Oklahoma City thunder board their buses.

Saturday came quick and before we knew it was time for the game.

This was my first game to go to enemy territory to watch the Oklahoma City thunder play. I was a little nervous wondering how fans around us would react. I was pleasantly surprised how friendly with a competitive spirit the fans have.

It was playful whether we were winning or losing.
A kind grandpa huge Memphis grizzlies fan brought his grandson who is a KD Oklahoma City thunder fan to the game they sat right in front of us.

Game observations. Kevin Durant
did not seem right he was slow and a step behind most of the game
•Memphis grizzlies fans really hate Steven Adams. He got bigger boo’s then Russell Westbrook.
•The FedEx had cupholders which would be quite handy at Chesapeake arena:-)
•Russell Westbrook seemed especially angry during the game.
Caron Butler, Kevin Martin, I mean Dion Waiters went for a layup with nobody around and completely missed it and had to re-shoot I did blush.
When we started to miss every shot in the fourth quarter I didn’t even get mad. I just sucked up all the energy in the form and enjoyed watching an NBA game away from home.
•I do still comment as if I’m a General manager though:-)
Here is a video of some of the sights and sounds of Memphis. http://youtu.be/-jyjtIVU5dg

Memphis fans in the grind house kept asking us how far of a drive it was for us. When we told them they all expressed interest in making the drive themselves to catch in Oklahoma City thunder/ grizzly game in OKC and I highly recommend it.
Beale Street has an old swanky vibe that kept us laughing talking healing.
It is a trip I will never forget.
Patty and Todd felt like relatives I’ve known my whole life. Lisa kept me laughing so hard I think I bruised a rib the first night!
Next game is tomorrow at home vs. The Magic.
Hopefully Oklahoma City will convince us all they are back. Oh what a dream.

The Oklahoma City Thunder win big vs. The Golden State Warriors

After getting whipped and totally humiliated by The Houston Rockets the night before, this game was going to either be redemption or the sky is falling in Oklahoma City. I could not believe the negativity and doom that is on local sports radio. Particularly Jim Traber of WWLS Sports Animal. I don’t always listen but when I do it’s like listening to a skipping record. Most of local sports media with the exception of Royce Young and a couple others is appalling. It’s attacking and sloppy. It’s no wonder that Russell Westbrook has shut down his interviews. I’ll get some more of that later.

We started out the night at Iquana lounge (downtown) for dinner. The food is excellent here and tonight I got Carnitas. This was an off night of low-carb eating.

The Game
The Oklahoma City thunder started out strong and stayed strong the entire game. The bodysnatchers brought our team back in the nick of time. Kevin Durant with “Ice in his Veins” and Russell Westbrook the energizer bunny. Still going!!!!

2015/01/img_7803.jpg
Russell Westbrook 17 points 17 rebounds 15 assist.
Kevin Durant 36 points 14-18 shooting.
Ibaka went for a couple threes changed his mind and drive to the basket or pull-up jumpers.
Dion Waiters got 21 points and was hustling Defense.
Amazing playing!
Earlier in the day we heard a bunch of rumors about Brook Lopez coming to the Oklahoma city thunder in a trade with Kendrick Perkins and Jeremy Lamb. That deal was put on hold before the game otherwise we wouldn’t of been able to get this picture. *taken by my son

This was OKC Thunder best game of the entire season. Thank God the bodysnatchers brought our guys back. Please don’t take them again!

Thunder win 127-115

After the game there was the interview that got a lot of media attention.
For the last few games Russell Westbrook has kept his answers real short and made it known he is no friend of the media. Why would he be? He is bashed every single day by them. And recently with the Thunder record and loses The brunt of the criticism falls on him. He is never been a media charmer. But he did seem to get a bit friendlier after he went down with his leg. That has all changed.
VIDEO HERE:
Execution By Russell Westbrook video

So The guy in the interview that Russell does not like is Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman newspaper. Photo below.

2015/01/img_7788.jpg

Berry wrote the Mr. Unreliable story about Kevin Durant last year before he won the MVP.
People keep telling me he didn’t write the headline that they have headline writers. I have a problem with that because that means there is no one person accountable. It means they have anonymous writers doing headlines to keep their “star” writers protected. The bottom line is Berry Tramel’s name was on that article would you want to work for a paper that doesn’t let you have creative license over your own newspaper article caption?
I know players make a fortune but they are also human too. All the money in the world doesn’t make people like Russell Westbrook fake. Do I think he could’ve handled it better, yes, but I was also cheering for him.
I always felt like the interviews were stupid and painstaking to watch especially after a loss. What does media expect players to say before and after 80 games a season! Nothing profound comes out of those interviews just a lot of awkward.

Next up is Orlando Magic 5 games on the road until they get back here!!

Keep it classy and
Thunder up!

The Utah Jazz were “Out Waiters”vs. OKC Thunder

We started out the night celebrating Lisa and my birthday. Her birthday is on Sunday and mine on Wednesday so we got the girls together and went to Stella’s modern Italian cuisine for dinner and drinks before the game.

Yummy dessert!

It’s always fun to hang out with the girls there were eight of us laughing and carrying on and catching up.

•On to the game
Something doesn’t seem right about the Oklahoma City thunder. Beyond the obvious of barely winning this game against the Utah Jazz and losing two prior it appears deeper than just having off games.
They look slower, stiffer and like they are simply not having fun anymore. Reggie Jacksons attitude is so thick you could cut it with a knife. He mopes around just going through the motions. That kind of negativity can’t help the team.
Team: ” Team members need to learn how to help one another, help other team members realize their true potential, and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond his or her limitations.”
Where is all that MVP speech love, joking around helping each other.
This game was much better than the last two with reckless sloppy behind play.
I love Reggie Jackson but it’s clear the trade talks the money the position are affecting him and his play.
I will be sad the day that he gets traded but it’s definitely coming.

2015/01/img_7622.jpg
Kendrick Perkins above with Dion Waiters.
The good news:
Dion waiters makes his home debut and nails a clutch three in the final seconds of the game to put the Oklahoma City thunder up by four.

So ever since we’ve been going to the games and know where Kevin Durant’s floor seats are we have seen the same woman in the seat for years. Always decked out always colorful and usually in sunglasses. We nicknamed her “Hollywood” years ago. My theory is she is an Inlaw through marriage of Kevin Durant’s. But we still don’t know any guesses? Photo below

This game with friends and a Thunder win was over-the-top fun!
Excited to see the thunder get their mojo back regroup and take care business. I have faith that the selfish sloppy unfocused team of a two game loss is behind us. I am ready to see a “team” play.
Here are fan highlights of the game.
